Absences/Make-Up Assignments:
If you miss a physical education class, you are required to write a one page paper (handwritten) related to sport/fitness/athletics. You will be expected to write legibly, with correct spelling and punctuation. All make-up papers MUST be COMPLETED within 2 WEEKS of the ABSENCE. No more than 5 make up papers are allowed per semester.
Below is a sample list of possible topics that you may write about. There are many other possibilities out there. If you have something else you would like to write about, please confirm with your instructor that your topic of choice is acceptable.
The choices are nearly endless, as long as they are school appropriate, and related to physical education/physical fitness/health/sport/nutrition. The topic you choose should interest you. This is NOT an opinion essay.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION POLICIES/PROCEDURES
Physical Education Standards:
- Demonstrate knowledge of a variety of motor skills: I can demonstrate competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.
- Understand and apply movement concepts: I can apply principles of training, conditioning, and practice for specific physical activities.
- Understand rules and strategies for a variety of physical activities: I can demonstrate basic strategies and an understanding of the rules to be followed during participation in specified physical activities.
- Understand appropriate and positive behavior management (social skills) and respect for all individual differences, including gender, ethnicity, and physical ability during physical activity. I can apply rules, procedures, and etiquette that are safe and effective for specific activities/situations. I can identify the elements of socially acceptable conflict resolution and sportsmanship.
PE Attire:
- All students should wear the following items during PE:
- T-Shirt (NO TANK TOPS)
- Athletic Shorts (no jean shorts or shorts that are too short!) Yoga pants are ok
- Spandex/Compression Shorts should be worn underneath the shorts for coverage
- Athletic Shoes (shoes that will not mark the gym floor) & Socks
- Sweatshirt/Sweatpants are ok for those cold days
- Please have DEODORANT in your gym locker to be used before and after class.
- Important: Your PE clothes MUST be different than the clothes you wear for the remainder of the school day. Students will sweat in class, and we do not want our students wearing these clothes to other classes.
- If possible, have a separate pair of shoes for PE than the ones you wear to class the rest of the day. Often times, your shoes will get wet while running in the grass.
- Separate socks should be used in PE. Students will not wear the same socks in PE that they have worn all day at school.
- PE clothes will be taken home and washed the last PE day of the week. Students will present clean clothes at the beginning of each week.
- Students will be provided with a loaner uniform if they do not have a change of clothes for PE.
- All students will dress down and participate every day. No student will participate in any activity unless dressed down.
- Any students not wishing to participate due to medical reasons must have a note from home or from a doctor. If you are not able to participate, you will need to complete a written assignment to receive your participation points for the day.
Showering:
- All students will take a good cleansing shower after physical activity-regardless of the activity.
- Students will enter the shower area, shower, and take ONE clean towel on the way out of the shower area. You need to put your towel in the “dirty towel” bin when finished. DO NOT LEAVE IT ON THE GROUND FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO PICK UP! Students are responsible for the care of the locker room.
- After showering, students will wait for the bell to ring in the GYM.
Safety:
- We expect students to participate in a safe manner. This includes our time in the gym/or out on the fields, as well as our transitional times and time in the locker room. Unsafe behavior will not be tolerated.
General Rules:
- ABSOLUTELY NO CELL PHONES are allowed in the locker rooms. Leave them in your school locker. I have a ZERO tolerance policy for cell phones in this setting.
- Turn in any items you find (locks, clothes, shoes, etc.) to the instructor immediately.
- Students will pay for any lost items. Locks - $5.00
- Think of your classmates. Be helpful, courteous, and friendly. No put downs!
- If you damage school issued PE equipment (balls, racquets, nets, etc.) due to irresponsibility, you will be responsible for paying for the cost to replace that piece of equipment.
